Wiki creator guide

The Puzzle Wiki (/wiki) is a public, collaboratively edited encyclopedia for terms, hunts, teams, mechanics, and history. Articles go through full review before they are public; drafts are visible only to the author until then.

Wiki Categories power portal filters. Puzzle tags try to match published article titles or aliases in the tag preview modal.

Read this guide first, then use New article on the wiki home, or create subpages from hunt-related flows.

1. Sign in, click New article, and pick a template (Hunt, puzzle, team, disambiguation, …).
2. Fill title, custom slug (letters, numbers, hyphens; ≥4 chars recommended), summary, and body; save draft.
3. When ready, submit for review. Admins handle items under Admin → Review → Wiki articles.
4. Approved articles use submit revision for later edits.
5. History stores each submission; use the time machine to browse by date. Dates can be shared via ?asOf= on the URL (query param takes priority over the browser cookie).

Deletion: authors may delete drafts or rejected articles only; contact admins for published pages.

Auto-links: published titles in the same locale link automatically in body text. Aliases help search and tag matching.

Macros: {{HuntLeaderboard}}, {{HuntRounds}}, {{Accolades}}, {{TeamHuntHistory}}, etc. — see next section.

Page type sets defaults and sidebar behavior:

• article: general entry
• hunt / puzzle: event or puzzle write-up; may embed hunt leaderboard
• team / resource: team or resource
• disambiguation: disambiguation index

Common infobox keys: huntId (site hunt hashid), startDate / endDate, parentSlug, rounds[], accolades[], leaderboardRows[], huntElements[] / puzzleElements[].

Import TOP N from a live hunt or paste CSV for archives; after the event, store rows in leaderboardRows for {{HuntLeaderboard|source=snapshot}}.

Hunt articles may have subpages (e.g. per-puzzle notes): use ?parent=parent-path when creating, or set parentSlug in the infobox. URLs look like /wiki/hunt-slug/puzzle-slug.

Hunt embed: with pageType=hunt and huntId, the read view shows the hunt’s public blurb and leaderboard. Puzzle titles are available only after you register and unlock them inside the Hunt.

Element browser: /wiki/element/name lists articles referencing that element.

After submit: pending review → approve / reject / request changes. After reject or request-changes you can edit the draft and resubmit. If an update is rejected, the public version rolls back to the previous approved revision.

Collaborative revisions: Non-authors revising an approved article need Excellent Author tier; otherwise you get a clear permission message.

Lock: Admins may lock a page with a reason; locked pages cannot be edited by normal users (independent of the review queue).

Spoilers: Use {{spoiler}} for Hunt-related body text; the portal shows a spoiler notice.

Locales: One concept can have multiple locale versions; the read page links to other languages or creating a translation. Save/submit defaults to the current locale; optionally include all locales that have a title.

Quality tips: one-sentence summary; define in the first paragraph; accurate categories; avoid large copy-paste from off-site sources; verify dates and team names for events.

The home page /wiki Featured, Did you know, FAQ, and quick nav blocks are parsed from the Main_Page (or main-page) article by == section == headings.

The hunt calendar merges the hunts API with wiki Category:Hunts; past events use when=past on the category page. Only curators need to maintain Main_Page; most contributors focus on articles.
